The War Rhetoric.

In between India-Pakistan news debate, Arnab Goswami paused to announce, how the Republic tv is seeing 25 times the regular viewership and how his tv show bet all other channels in TRP ratings this week. Really. So is this truly patriotism/nationalism or is it all about raking in the moolah. Making hay while the sun shines? Meanwhile his channel along with Hindustan Times, Times now, India today tv are done with all the possible India hits in Pakistan including the hideout of the dreaded HS in Lahore with Google map. Nothing left to viewers’ imagination. Detailed hit(wish)list from Sindh to Punjab and POK, the navy preparedness, the airforce strategy everything already discussed by Indian media for the (impending?) attacks. This is in spite of repeated Indian government warnings to the media not to publicize war strategies or give updates on troop movements. HT and Republic tv are vying with each other to lay bare any secret of the Indian defence that is not already in the public domain. Common sense is thrown to the winds. Even if a limited scale war is inevitable, we can still avoid talking about it day in and day out. At the end of the day, we want peace of mind and don’t want this to be playing in our mind during wakeful and sleep hours. This Arnab talks too much. Just because he wants war, that does that make him more patriotic than those of us who don’t want one. Even during this hungama, ARNAB GOSWAMI IS MINTING MILLIONS that is the point. He is not doing it without gain. The big mouth is wagging for a purpose: he is onto a goldmine called possible Indo-Pak conflict. He has to keep talking so that his coffers will be jingling 24 hours the next few weeks. Opportunities like these are hard to come by. Rest of us are weary of this war rhetoric because we are practical and we don’t stand to gain anything out of a conflict of this nature like Arnab is going to. He is going to make a killing in case the conflict materializes. While the rest of us are going to LOSE, LOSE, LOSE. Let this sink into his mind. If it has to happen, it will happen. Its not in our hands. Leave it to Hinglaj Mata. Even nations have destiny. I don’t wish the war away. I don’t want it either. I am merely a believer in Karma and Dharma and I believe even nations have Karma. Finally this too shall pass.

Where is responsible journalism. Across the border you have intellectual dishonesty parading as national newspapers. Within the country we have media going jingoistic over war, wishing for it, begging for it.

We have wise men in charge, to who we have entrusted the safety and security of our dear nation. Let them do what is deemed fit. Don’t glorify war. If at all it has to happen, still feel bad about it. That is what human beings must be doing.
