The invisible dog and cat guarding my home.

Three years back when we went to Varanasi, I got a small drishti Kala Bhairav from the temple there dedicated to fiercest form of Shiva, to hang over my door. Never thought much about it. Back home this March first week on awakening, when I closed my eyes, a huge black doberman like dog filled my vision. I knew immediately it was Kala Bhairav and I was surprised. Not a big devotee of Him. But then Of course I had been calling out to Him in the US since when I encountered negativity. But the invisible dog prowling about my home came as a pleasant surprise. That’s why I say, don’t ever ignore any idol or even printed picture of a deity. Their energy is still there not visible to our naked eyes that’s all. Now I appealed to Kala Bhairav to grace me only with the less fiercer form like how He is in Arunachaleshwara temple, Thiruvannamalai. In south temples, Kala Bhairav looks less fiercer and a bit approachable! I nuzzled His black doberman neck in my vision petting Him for coming to guard me and my home. Strangely there was also a small black cat meowing. I didn’t know who it was. That night in my dream a voice whispered, ‘i am Munishwara in cat form in your house.’ Amazed at that. We worship Munishwara annually as we consider Him to be the protector of our children and unborn babies. We have Him in a tree even in our Kula deivam site in Arni. Moreover in my mother-in-law’s side, one of her parents family has Munishwaran for Kula deivam I think (from Thirumullaivoyal side).

One week on my return I was perplexed by negativity. We the awakened become the antenna receiving both positve and negative signals. At that time in desperation I appealed to Kala Bhairav. I closed my eyes and in my vision, first there appeared a gora rupa just like before in Kaligambal darshan. The gora rupa departed to reveal the whole Kala Bhairav as He stands in the Arunachaleshwara temple in Thiruvannamalai. My protective father is forever with me.

Then I went to a non agama temple in the next street the following week. In front of the small Shiva Lingam I closed my eyes. In physical reality, there was just the lingam, low in height. When I closed my eyes, in my vision I saw a black cat purring behind the Shiva Lingam. Munishwara. I don’t want to add what all I saw in the non Agama temple. That’s something I shall reserve for another day.

Whenever I ask in my mind, ‘Bhairava are you there?’ I get answered with a dog barking from the street! Stray dog answers me back.

I was talking to a friend whose Kula deivam is Kala Bhairav (from parents’ side). She is someone who is knowledgeable on awakening etc. I was telling her about my recent spiritual transformation. She immediately said, she was feeling goosebumps. I said that’s because Kala Bhairava was with me all the time and she probably felt Him as He is their kula deivam. She said, head to foot on talking to me, a current passed through her body. Kala Bhairav, who else!

That’s why I say, India is such a blessed nation. The islamization and christianization of this holy country is like committing sacrilege on the spiritual consciousness of this country. Every tree in India, every animal, bird, every idol, simply everything living and nonliving – holds so much of spiritual energy. I am blessed to be born in this nation. I am blessed to have my third eye open and have access to at least a little of the vibrant energy forms.

People may ask, in that case, why should India suffer. Why were there invasions. One thing a deity never does is INTERFERE WITH THE KARMA OF INDIVIDUAL OR NATIONS. Dharma is freewill and will balance itself over time. The hypocrisy of the ancient Hindus led to the invasions to bring about a just and equitable society where social justice was served for everyone on equal footing.

I may be of Shaktha school but I also respect Vallalar for his values and also Vethaathri Maharishi for his ‘Vaazhga Valamudan’ (philosophical schools of spirituality and philosophy.) I think probably that made my Ma Lalitha choose me over many others following a ton of aachaarams and anushtaanams. I don’t do any of that stuff. But my atma is clean that’s all.

If I need to see Him, I need to call out to Him in my mind and close my eyes. A huge doberman shall fill my vision (no dream, no physical sighting). My home is under total protection of the big prowling black dog and the small purring black cat – visible only to my eyes. Together they make quite a team!

PS: I wrote this piece and went to Kapali temple where I had Kala Bhairav darshan among other deity darshans. Back home, received a guest who surprised me with a sacred black thread from Kala Bhairav temple in Varanasi. The couple just got back from pilgrimage to Varanasi, Gaya and Ayodhya. Look how fast-fast He reacts – our Bhairav Baba! Nothing is a coincidence. All are connecting dots only.

World Peace Day.

Today is International Peace Day. May be a bit late to write on this. Attended a demo session of Heartfulness meditation at ICC Doha (that we do every year). On and off I do the heartfulness kind of meditation wherein we say we meditate from our heart. This kind of meditation is different from other typical Hindu meditation techniques that focus on progression of the seven Chakras. Meditation is essentially Om Mantra vibration for me which is why I am unable to come to terms with Heartfulness. Also, there is always a conscious attempt by many groups, in my opinion, to delink anything basically and intrinsically Hindu and make it universal. Yoga is compromised and even in the Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) Om mantra is eliminated. But if you eliminate the Om, how can it continue to be the authentic Surya Namaskar. In any case, most Yoga stretches are patented by Americans who have had nothing to do with Yoga or Meditation. There are two kinds of existence as per Hindu Dharma: Yoga and Bhoga. Yoga is renunciation essentially for both Hindus and Buddhists (and Jains) which means detachment to prepare yourself for the ultimate Enlightenment or Nirvana (self consciousness or self awareness). Bhoga is voraciously materialistic. The American or western practice of Yoga is without a soul that way – because they have killed the Yogic aspect of the fitness regime where body and soul merge with discipline. Yogic exercises in the west are mostly bhogic that they even have beer Yoga, Yoga with goats etc – which shows how least they grasp the elements of Yoga and how ignorant and disrespectful they are about something that is too very profound and disciplined way of life. Meditation is the other branch of Yoga like the Mudras. Now we have even the Transcendental mediation and Kundalini awakening selling like hotcakes; there are crash courses on Chakra progression and on Kundalini for sale. Which is why I have developed such a distaste for any kind of meditation that disassociates itself consciously, purposely from Hindu Dharma. Is that want you need to market a philosophy to worldwide seekers?

Meditation was mentioned as a tool to achieve peace both internal and external. Someone who spoke said what gave him peace was social service to the community. To those like my husband, work is worship as a friend stated the obvious truth. Peace to this kind comes from discharging their responsibility to such an impeccable perfection and contributing to realizable productivity.

As for as I am concerned, we all have our schools of thought that we adhere to. Hindu dharma has six clear cut philosophies to achieve the internal peace and I am for pursuing one of the six folded path. Sorry, I have no appetite for meditation, and if it does have to be, it will be the Om Mantra chanting for meditation for me. Now, that is the original meditation. No harm in entertaining, contemplating the various options but I guess, Hindus must eschew meditation techniques and yogic methods that try to misinterpret the Hindu practices and try to make them non communal. It is true yoga need not have to be communal, meditation need not have to be communal, but neither then must they be sold commercial. If you have to pay for them, then they may as well be patented. Yoga is not about the mere body. It is that which unites the body with the soul and takes you to the the next step of self awareness. It gives you mind control. Indian govt missed patenting yoga through decades since independence. Too late, but won the patent for Surya namaskar finally! However in the meantime the west came out with their own Pilates that is blatant takeover from yoga. Zumba, Taekwondo, Kungfu, Karate everything is patented by the respective origin countries. But then the greatest weakness of a Hindu is, you do not want to charge for the universal goodness that you give the world. What the heck. its not a question of charges. Its about preserving the essence of the tools of our Sanathana Dharam without dilution.

We spend years on deciding which route to take to the top of the pyramid. I did. Its worth testing every tool. With trial and error we can eliminate what won’t apply to us. Heartfulness is okay but I resent the delinking of Hindu aspect from this form of meditation. I don’t think this will give me peace at all! But practitioners of Heartfulness vouch for the peace and harmony in their lives. That stillness of the heart – i guess I can still have with the quiet Om vibration from the base of the Mooladhara chakra and then go on working up.

Before I close I cannot help emphasizing on peace at home before we go seek solace in the outside world as almost all the speakers underscored. That was the takeaway for me from the evening.
